My ITLS expired is and the next course is not for 2 months what can I do?

IThe michigan Chapter of ITLS offers a "temporary provider" status to anyone.  Contact the State Coordinator (dmaatman@sbcglobal.net) to schedule a "test-out" time.  The test-out consists of the standard ITLS written post test and practical scenario evaluations.  Upon successful completion of both the written an practical a ITLS Provider card will be issued with an expiration date of 1 year from the date of the tes-out.  NO CEU's are awarded.

Are ITLS courses the same as BTLS courses?

ITLS will be transitioning the names of its courses over the next few years.  For now, ITLS courses are the BTLS courses that it has traditionally offered.

Do I need to turn in my BTLS card for an ITLS card? If so, when?

No, all current BTLS cards will remain valid until their expiration dates.  When you take a new ITLS course or refresher, you will be issued an ITLS card.

Will BTLS chapters now be called ITLS chapters?

Yes.  All BTLS chapters will transition to become ITLS by December 31, 2006.

Who can take a ITLS course?
ITLS offers two core programs: the Basic ITLS course for first responders, technicians, and EMT-B’s. The Advanced ITLS course is for EMT-P’s, PA’s, nurses and physicians.

Who is eligible to take the ITLS Recertification course?
Current ITLS or PHTLS providers.   The Michigan Chapter of ITLS  does allow a 60 day grace period for eligibility.

Will CEU's be awarded if I do not pass the course?
Yes, as long as you are in attendance for the entire course you will be provided a "certificate of participation" instead of a "provider card".

How long is the ITLS certification good for?
In Michigan, certifications issued after December 7, 2005  ( provider courses and recertification course) will be valid for 4 years from the date of course completion.

I have an old ITLS Provider textbook, should I purchase a new one for my recertification course?
Yes, the 5th edition of the advanced textbook and 4th edition of the basic textbook reflect the latest in trauma care and utilize the new DOT curriculum  terminology.

I am on limited duty due to injury, should I take ITLS now or wait until I am back to full duty?
You should wait until you are back to full duty.  ITLS is a "hands on", psychomotor oriented course.  Frequent lifting, bending and kneeling can be expected.
